NB The Museum of Liverpool Life has now closed. Read about its replacement - Museum of Liverpool.

The opening of the three new galleries, City Soldiers, City Lives and the River Room, at the museum in July 2000 marked the completion of the first phase of the Into the Future project.

The success of the three new galleries helped to boost the Museum of Liverpool Life's visitor figures considerably, making it one of National Museums Liverpool's most popular venues with both the local population and tourists.

It soon became apparent that this extremely popular museum was too small to house the huge urban history collections cared for by National Museums Liverpool and display them in the most engaging way. As a result, National Museums Liverpool is building an even bigger, better Museum of Liverpool, that will show more of the collections than ever before.

Please note that the Museum of Liverpool Life closed to the public on 4 June 2006 to allow preparations for the new museum to start.
