National Museums Liverpool's improved collection storage facility

These £1.5m improvements to our main collection storage facilities, completed in 1999, formed a vital part of the National Museums Liverpool Into the Future project. The new space provides much improved storage for parts of our collection, and the space to research and prepare items for display in the new galleries. New storage facilities have also been created in the expanded World Museum Liverpool building itself to house over a million science reference specimens.

The work resulted in:

  • over 300,000 artefacts re-housed
  • storage space almost doubled
  • custom-built storage and access facilities
  • closely monitored and controlled environmental conditions
