'Morecambe Bay from Warton Crag' - Daniel Alexander Williamson (1862)

Sheep at rest amongst rocks with sea in distance

  • Artist: Daniel Alexander Williamson (1823-1903)
  • Oil on board
  • 25.1 cm x 33.5 cm (9 15/16" x 13 1/4")
  • Inscribed verso: Morecambe Bay from Warton Crag DAW (monogram) 1862
  • Walker Art Gallery

The intensely glowing colour, the detailed depiction of the sheep and the limestone rocks are similar to Strayed Sheep (Tate Gallery) painted in 1852 by William Holman Hunt

In later years Williamson's style changed completely and he made impressionistic, misty watercolours.
