2.3 Use of the reference facilities

Information for those who wish to make use of any of National Museums Liverpool's reference facilities. Access to all library and archives collections held in National Museums Liverpool is by prior appointment, except for the Maritime Archives and Library which has an open public reference facility. For details of access to specific reference facilities contact the relevant curatorial department or venue.

Archives and Library resources

Maritime Archives and Library

The Maritime Archives and Library is a public research facility based at Merseyside Maritime Museum for the study of the history of the Port of Liverpool and maritime history in general. Details of collections, facilities and opening times are on the Maritime Archive and Library webpages or available on request from the Maritime Archives and Library.

Archives Department Collections

The Archives Department also holds non-maritime business records relating to trade and industry in the Liverpool area, as well as the historical archives of National Museums Liverpool. These records are stored at the Reserve Store and are available by prior appointment. Details are available from our Major Collections webpage or from the Archives Department, care of the  Maritime Archives and Library.
