In 2007 the Board of Directors decided to fundraise for the International Slavery Museum and new Museum of Liverpool, helping to provide key funding towards the continuation and development of these venues.

International Slavery Museum
The International Slavery Museum, opened on 23 August 2007, highlights the international importance of slavery, both in a historic and contemporary context. Working in partnership with other museums with a focus on freedom and enslavement, the museum provides opportunities for greater awareness and understanding of the legacy of slavery today. American Friends of National Museums Liverpool, Inc. (AFNML) is fundraising to help further developments at the International Slavery Museum, including an Education and Research Centre planned to open by 2011.

Museum of Liverpool
The Museum of Liverpool will be one of the world’s leading city history museums setting a benchmark for museums of its kind. The museum will demonstrate Liverpool’s unique contribution to the world. It will provide the city with a museum which explains, explores and captures Liverpool’s astonishingly diverse and vibrant history and character on an international scale.
