Students from Wirral schools exhibit work at Lady Lever Art Gallery

Students from four Wirral high schools will exhibit their artwork at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, in the company of internationally-renowned masterpieces.

Fresh Perspectives opens on 20 January until 1 May 2017.

The exhibition features a diverse selection of works including paintings, 3D works, textiles and digital images. The pieces have been created by GCSE and A-level students from South Wirral High School, St John Plessington Catholic College, Prenton High School for Girls and Weatherhead High School.

It is the third time that the exhibition - which runs biennially - has been held at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, showcasing the breadth of creative talent held by young people in Wirral.

Sandra Penketh, Director of Art Galleries at National Museums Liverpool, said:

“The Fresh Perspectives exhibition is always popular with visitors.  We are sure that this year’s exhibition will see a similar response.

“From a mixture of portraits and vibrant paintings, to textiles and sculptures, the students are able to show a range of skills and talents in this year’s exhibition. They should all be very proud of their work and what they have achieved.”

Gemma Churton, Art Teacher at Prenton High School for Girls, said:

“We are extremely proud to be part of the Fresh Perspectives exhibition again this year. It is wonderful for our students to have the opportunity to show their work outside of school to a wider audience.

“To have their work on display in such prestigious art gallery is fantastic! I’m sure this will be an experience that they will not forget and something that will inspire their work in the future.”

Emma Cottham, a student from Prenton High School for Girls, said:

“It is a privilege, as this is an amazing experience to be involved with, at school and with the Gallery. I feel honoured.”

Izzy Pots, student from South Wirral High School, said:

“It feels amazing to be involved in this exhibition. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity; not every day you can say you’ve had work displayed in the Lady Lever Art Gallery.”
