National Museums Liverpool has been a partner in the ecsite-uk Travelling Exhibitions Consortium, (eTEC) together with At-Bristol, ecsite-uk, Magna and W5 since 2004. The Consortium has produced three interactive travelling exhibitions, funded by the Millennium Commission through a ReDiscover grant. Eye for Colour has been produced by National Museums Liverpool for eTEC and won the 2007 Museums and Heritage Award for Excellence in the category of Best Temporary Exhibition.

Living with the Romans

First shown at the Museum of Liverpool Life, this is the first exhibition to reveal what life was like in Liverpool and the North West during the Roman period. Living with the Romans shows how the native people lived, worked and died under Roman rule. Visitors are taken back nearly 2000 years using artefacts, dioramas and models to portray a vivid picture of daily life. The tour of Living with the Romans was made possible by Partnerships’ funding for display cases.

Venues:

La Bouche du Roi

Merseyside Maritime Museum was one of five venues to host this installation through the British Museum’s Partnership UK programme. The tour is funded by Arts Council England with additional support through the generosity of the Dorset Foundation.

Romuald Hazoumé's La Bouche du Roi was at Merseyside Maritime Museum in 2007 as part of a year long programme of events to celebrate the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade at National Museums Liverpool.

Best of Merseyside exhibition

National Conservation Centre, 22 August - 5 October 2008

This exhibition was a vibrant showcase of artistic talent from across the Greater Merseyside Boroughs, with artists selected from the annual Open Art Exhibitions hosted by the Williamson Art Gallery, Kirkby Gallery, The Godfrey Pilkington Art Gallery, The Brindley and the Atkinson Art Gallery during the year.

Partners in his project were: Halton Borough Council, Knowlsey Metropolitan Borough Council, St. Helens Council, Sefton Council and Wirral Council and the Arts Council of England. The exhibition was supported by the Museum Partnerships Department at National Museums Liverpool.

The exhibition received 17,000 visitors and excellent feedback from the public. We are hoping to host a similar show with our partners in 2010.

North West Touring Exhibitions Group

In partnership with a number of North West Museums and Galleries we are discussing ideas for touring exhibitions, drawing upon national and regional collections. One of the ideas the group is currently developing and exploring financial sources for is, 'Hitched, Wedding Clothes and Customs'. This is an exhibition exploring tradition and attitudes to marriage by different community groups as well as among young people and using the costume and social history collections of National Museums Liverpool as well as the Grosvenor Museum in Chester.

If you would like more information about the group contact Mary Hesling, touring exhibitions officer on 0151- 478 4940 mary.hesling@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk
