Clare graduated from University of Nottingham with a degree in Russian and East European studies. Following this she taught English as a foreign language to primary school children in Slovenia and Croatia. This led to a job with an international children's charity delivering drugs education to young children in inner city Leeds.

Clare began working in Human Resources (HR) in 2000 in the financial services sector, firstly as a learning and development adviser before moving into progressive HR generalist roles and attaining her CIPD professional qualifications.

In 2005 she went to work for the Humanitarian Department for Oxfam GB and was responsible for delivering the on the ground HR support for their emergency and development programmes in Zambia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Senegal, Ghana and Chad. She also worked for a year for the British Red Cross as HR Manager for their largest international response, the tsunami recovery programme in Aceh, Indonesia.

Her interest in National Museums Liverpool began after seeing a display sponsored by the Merseyside Maritime Museum in the Slave House on Ile de Goree in Senegal and she subsequently joined the organisation in September 2008 as HR and Organisational Development Manager.

In her spare time she practices yoga, enjoys travelling, hiking and scuba diving and is currently training (or trying to!) for her first half marathon.
