Becoming a trustee

Help us to be innovative, accountable, creative and inclusive. Become a trustee.

Here at National Museums Liverpool we are eager to continue growing larger and more diverse audiences. We want our visitors to engage with us in new and exciting ways; and we want you to help us to achieve this.

National Museums Liverpool is one of the world's great museum services with local, regional, national and international activities. Through our progressive, outward looking approach, we inspire millions of people in ways that are inclusive and challenging, creating real social value. Our International Slavery Museum is helping redefine just how relevant and effective a museum can be, and we are currently building a new Museum of Liverpool, which will set a benchmark for city museums worldwide. If you are excited about our museums, our mission, our collections, and what we do with them, help us to meet the challenges of the future by joining our Board of Trustees.

About being a trustee

National Museums Liverpool's Board of Trustees consists of a minimum of 14 and a maximum of 20 people who are appointed by the Government. Their role is primarily a strategic one and some specific areas of high-level decision-making are reserved to the trustees.

Trustees are unpaid but will be reimbursed for reasonable redeemable expenses. Board appointment will be for four years and requires a commitment of up to eight days a year.

Trustee vacancies

Right now we're looking for several new Trustees to work in strategic partnership with our Executive Team. Specific experience and requirements are detailed within the person specification, which can be downloaded below.

Candidates should have an understanding of and commitment to the objectives and work of National Museums Liverpool, combined with an ability to take strategic decisions. They will be able to work within the corporate governance framework of a charity and a non-departmental public body, and work constructively with other Trustees and the senior management, with a full understanding of the role and responsibilities of a non-executive appointment.

National Museums Liverpool is committed to diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, particularly people from Black and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.
