Working in the Finance Team
Angeline Chikuruwo, Financial Accountant tells us what it's like working in the Finance Team at National Museums Liverpool.
What is a typical working day like?
My day often starts with me checking emails and my 'to do list' for any urgent queries and tasks. Usually, I am either at my desk or I am out and about meeting budget managers or attending staff working group meetings. Each day is different, depending on our monthly and year end timetable.
I could be completing either statutory returns, reports for the Finance Committee & Board, producing management accounts and reports, or reviewing management accounts with budget managers.
As a point of contact in Finance for departments, my day also involves dealing with telephone & email queries from budget managers, in order to provide them with financial information and advice.
What’s your favourite part of your role?
I really enjoy all aspects of my job, so it’s hard for me to pick my favourite part. What I can probably say is that I enjoy getting out of the office and going to different venues to meet with budget managers, as I get an opportunity to know more about the different activities going on, as well as meet National Museums Liverpool staff from other departments.
What advice would you give to someone interested in a career in finance?
The Finance Team is a great team to be part of. The roles are varied, but all connected somehow. If you are a team player, have good time management skills and love working with numbers and people, you might wish to consider applying for roles within our department.
My role requires a professional accounting qualification, as well as experience in financial accounting and reporting, team management, controls, management information and business partnering.
