LGBT Fan Group Toolbox

About this object

This toolbox is a helpful guide for LGBT people planning to establish fan groups at their football clubs. Supporters’ Clubs amongst other things help to curb homophobic abuse regularly heard in football stadia, and make LGBT supporters feel more welcome.

The guide estimates that around 6% of the population are LGBT; in football terms that’s more than 2000 LGBT fans at an average Premier League game or 5000 at Wembley.

In the last few years the number of supporters’ groups advocating for LGBT fans has more than trebled. The guide gives practical advice on how to get buy-in at the top, social media/publicity, reporting LGBT-phobia, visibility and organisational set up.
