These iconic people are just some of the many influential figures connected to our LGBT collections.
They include LGBT individuals from the city who have made significant contributions to society. We have also picked out several LGBT artists and designers, from across the globe, who have made significant contributions to cultural heritage and whose life stories have resonated with contemporary LGBT communities. Others are historical figures that feature prominently in objects within our collections and have been widely embraced by LGBT people.
Some identified as LGBT within their lifetimes, others didn’t, or couldn’t, and are only now being celebrated and recognised.
More icons will be added as we continue to research our collections.
