'Epstein The Man Who Made The Beatles'

About this object

‘Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles’ was a play starring Andrew Lancel as Brian Epstein. The play was originally staged at the Epstein Theatre (re-named in honour of Brian), Hanover Street, Liverpool in 2012. It later transferred to London’s West End, in 2014.

Whilst celebrating his career as manager of a globally successful band, the play also delved into his previously unexplored story and private world at a time when homosexuality was illegal. The emotional struggles of being conflicted between very different worlds – trying to reconcile his sexuality and Jewish faith, expectations of his family and issues associated with homophobia, drugs and fame were all explored.
