Sir William Cuthbert Quilter

Stock broker, art collector and Liberal/Liberal Unionist politician

Initially working in his father's (William Quilter 1808 - 1888) accountancy firm, he founded his own firm. Quilter, Balfour & Co. He was one of the founding directors of the National Telephone Company. His art collection included works by Pre-Raphaelite painters D. G. Rossetti, Millais, and Holman Hunt. He was elected as the Liberal Party member of parliament for Sudbury in 1885 and was re-elected as a Liberal Unionist in 1886. He was a first baronet.
