Leonard Rowe Valpy

Solicitor and art collector (1825 - 1884)

Valpy was a London solicitor who retired in 1878. He had associations with Samuel Palmer and was a patron of Rossetti from 1867 until Rossetti's death in 1882. His interest was chiefly in watercolours but he also collected a large number of Pre Raphaelite works. Valpy acquired 'Dante's Dream' by Rossetti in 1873 from the artist who had had the work returned by the original owner, William Graham, as it was too large for his house.
