Repairing missing elements of a frame

The frame of the painting 'The Marriage of St Catherine' by May Cooksey was conserved to prepare it for an exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery.

Conservators repaired missing elements on the frame, applying traditional gesso to the new parts. These new parts were then gilded, then the new gold was toned down to match the original gold colour on the frame.
