Details of the horse and jockey
The paint of the horse and jockey is thinly applied and simply modelled, wet-in-wet, with thicker highlights of a creamy consistency, for example the veins on the horse's flank and rear legs.

Organic red is present in the paint mixtures of the jockey's nose and mouth along with an orange-red, most probably vermilion. The use of colour is restrained but masterful as exemplified by the varied touches of pinks and reds in the jockey's carefully observed flesh tones.
