The next stage would have been to draw features in more detail using a type of ink and a fine brush. Some of this drawing can be seen in the figures’ hands and faces where the paint is applied more thinly than in their costumes.

Very little of the drawing is visible in infra-red light; this probably means that it was carried out in ox-gall ink or a similar medium that contains very little carbon black.
