"The terraced houses were used as backgrounds for film sets, but children were growing up in them and playing football in the streets. The rag-and-bone man called every week and the cobbles were brushed by a street cleaner."

Reminiscence sessions

A number of reminiscence sessions have been held during the exhibition in which people have discussed the events, places and people captured in Stephen Shakeshaft's evocative photographs. Here is an example of the responses to this picture:

"This reminds me of a very happy childhood in Liverpool. It was an innocent, happy, protected time and these children look as happy and carefree as I was."

More reminiscence sessions are planned during the exhibition, see the exhibition events programme for further details if you would like to take part.
