"It looks like a disaster movie but it was a tyre yard on fire in Fazakerley. The flames and smoke ran out of control for a while and the inhabitants in the adjoining houses were all evacuated. This woman went back for her dog, worth more to her than any possession."

Reminiscence sessions

A number of reminiscence sessions have been held during the exhibition in which people have discussed the events, places and people captured in Stephen Shakeshaft's evocative photographs. Here is an example of the responses to this picture:

"The photo of the tyre yard on fire reminded me of a bush fire there was once in Sydney and me and my family went to stay with some friends out of harms way."
Wills from Sydney, Australia

More reminiscence sessions are planned during the exhibition, see the exhibition events programme for further details if you would like to take part.
