"Bill was a retired police officer who had an uncanny likeness to the Pope. He dressed in the appropriate garments to raise money for charity and was amused as people called him 'Your Grace'. It didn't happen very often outside a supermarket in Mossley Hill. "

Reminiscence sessions

A number of reminiscence sessions have been held during the exhibition in which people have discussed the events, places and people captured in Stephen Shakeshaft's evocative photographs. Here is an example of the responses to this picture:

"I love the photo of Bill the ex policeman and 'The Pope'. It reminds me of going to Liverpool Airport as a teenager to see the Pope arrive and kiss the ground. The atmosphere was magical."

More reminiscence sessions are planned during the exhibition, see the exhibition events programme for further details if you would like to take part.
