"Toxteth was a grim scene that morning, in July 1981. Cars burnt out and overturned in Upper Parliament Street, the old Rialto cinema lay in ruin, gutted by fire. As policemen ushered people away life was still going on. A mother pushed her baby in a pram through the fallen bricks."
