This portrait of William Roscoe was painted by the artist John Williamson around 1790. The work uses oil paints on a canvas backing. William Roscoe was an important collector and scholar of the late 18th century. His collection of paintings now forms part of the Walker Art Gallery displays and his botanical specimens are held in World Museum Liverpool.
