Wood sampler

Frayed sampler decorated with people, animals, flowers and a boat

This sampler was made by Betty Wood in 1765. The sample is made of silk embroidery on a wool worsted ground. Worsted is the wool made from the long fine hairs in a sheep's coat. We have to guess whether Betty - the person who embroidered the sampler - was called Wood or Woods since the last two letters have been lost.
