3D recording of prehistoric rock art

Conservation Technologies used laser scanning to produce an accurate 3D record of the prehistoric 'cup and ring' markings on the Heygate stone for the Manor House Museum in Ilkley, Yorkshire. The 3D computer model of the stone allows close study of the surface under different digitally created lighting conditions and a 3D animation created from the scan data can be used as a means of improving access to and visualization of the stone in the museum gallery.

Have a look at images taken during the recording process in the image gallery.
