Digital reconstruction of worn industrial tooling parts
VernaCare Ltd is one of the top suppliers to the NHS for healthcare products and services. In 2008 VernaCare Ltd approached Conservation Technologies to assist in the replacement of some of their pulp bend-pan tools and de-moulds which were reaching the end of their production lives. Many of the tools are hand-made and have been modified over the years. As a result, no CAD data existed to machine replacements. The organic shape of the moulds meant CAD modelling would be costly and time consuming.
Conservation Technologies was able to respond quickly and 3D laser scan| the worn original tools and reverse engineer the data to produce highly accurate, clean NURBS surface models ready for use by the engineers at VernaCare.
