Recreating the Woolton elephant head
Scottish and Newcastle brewery commissioned us to recreate a concrete elephant head which used to sit above the entrance to the Elephant public house in Woolton Village, Liverpool. Working from photographs of the original head and feedback from the client and other parties involved in the project, we modelled up a full-size plaster version which was then used to create a two-piece mould. The head was then cast into concrete and a stainless steel armature incorporated to provide support along with special fixings in the base. The cast was finished and painted, before being installed back on the outside of the Elephant pub.
