Conservation technologies
Exclusive sculptures replicated from National Museums Liverpool's collections available soon to purchase
Conservation Technologies are proud to announce that we have created a very limited edition range of foundry cast bronze sculptures. They will be ready for sale from September 2008. This is a first for National Museums Liverpool and makes these beautiful sculptures highly desirable and collectable for those in the know.
The limited edition range has been produced using a rare blend of the latest laser scanning technology and traditional methods of casting to produce these highly accurate sculptures. Each one of the four sculptures comes from the museums own collection of otherwise inaccessible and priceless artefacts.

The production of these amazing works of art started with each original sculpture being scanned by the Conservation Technologies’ laser technology scientists who created a highly accurate 3D computer file. The digital file was then used to control a 3D printer that in turn produced a model of the original sculpture accurate in every detail and proportion.
Most people are aware that because of the age, surface or patina of the ancient museum objects it is not possible to take a mould straight from a museum piece and it is certainly not recommended for them to be touched by ungloved hands. Therefore the laser technology was the only way to create a 3D image with absolutely no contact and certainly no damage or change to the sculptures concerned.
Once the model had been produced they were then ready to go to the fine art bronze casting foundry, where using the ‘lost wax’ process. To date Conservation Technologies have had five each of Eros, Aphrodite, Zeus Ammon produced at actual size and two of Narcissus made at approximately ¾ of the original size. The maximum number of any of these sculpture replicas that will ever be produced is 35.

Example of a gold hallmark on one of the limited edition sculptures. The first number denotes the edition number, the second is the edition size and the third is the year of production. The fourth marking is the Conservation Technologies logo depicting the eye of Apollo, inspired by a sculpture from the collections.
Each limited edition has been foundry cast in fine art quality bronze with a unique hand applied patina. To identify each unique piece, a solid 22 carat gold bar hallmark has been inserted into the sculpture which clearly identifies the replica with the unique number of the edition and the year. Every sculpture comes with its own certificate which has been signed and verified by the director of National Museums Liverpool.
