Conservation technologies training courses

Conservation technologies now provide training courses in laser cleaning and laser scanning.

An introduction to laser cleaning in conservation

Conservation technologies holds regular two-day courses offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of laser cleaning.

The course includes:

  • an introduction to light and lasers
  • laser safety
  • how laser cleaning works
  • practical laser cleaning
  • test cleaning on samples bought by participants

The course, which comprises lectures, case studies, practical work and discussion, attracts participants worldwide.

Courses are normally run four times a year with a maximum of only five places on each course.

Intended audience: conservators, conservation scientists and others with an interest in conservation, working for museums, public bodies, charities and other non-profit making organisations.

An introduction to laser scanning in the heritage field

This one day course comprises of a series of lectures, practical demonstrations, case studies and opportunity for discussion.

It is aimed at all those working within the heritage field who would like to develop a basic understanding of laser scanning and its uses, including museum curators, conservators, conservation officers, archaeologists, virtual reality providers, exhibition designers, surveyors and other commissioners of 3D recording work.

The course content includes:

  • a basic introduction to the theory of laser scanning
  • different types of laser scanning systems
  • processing of scan data to produce a finished computer model
  • managing scan data and file formats
  • how to specify a laser scanning job
  • practical considerations
  • practical applications of laser scan data, including non-contact replication

Places are limited to twenty per course.

Cost: £95 (+VAT) (tea/coffee and lunch provided)
