Help us buy the Mauretania model
RMS Mauretania was a Cunard liner, and the sister ship to the Lusitania. She was the fastest ship travelling between Liverpool and New York and her crew were drawn from the streets around Liverpool’s waterfront communities.

We wanted to buy this this original 3 metre model of the Mauretania. It was auctioned by shipbuilding firm Swan Hunter on 12 May 2015. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in our bid. The model sold for £162,000.
After the auction, Janet Dugdale, Director of Merseyside Maritime Museum said:
“We are hugely disappointed with today’s outcome. Our intention was to bring the Mauretania home to Liverpool, at a critical time in the city’s maritime history. It is sad that we cannot do this. However, I would like to thank every single person who contributed. The donations raised were fantastic and will be used to improve the Merseyside Maritime Museum and its collections”.
Thank you to everyone who donated. All donations will be reinvested into Merseyside Maritime Museum and developing its displays.
