As a key port and gateway to the Atlantic, Liverpool forged close trade links with America through shipping, as well as being the embarkation point for many migrants heading to the New World. Perhaps most significantly, Liverpool and America shared an involvement in the transatlantic slave trade.

American Friends of National Museums Liverpool, Inc (AFNML) is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to raise awareness and key funds towards the development of two internationally important venues - the International Slavery Museum and the new Museum of Liverpool.

Your donation could help enhance Liverpool's relationship with America and help bring US history to life in the Museum of Liverpool - to see how, read the story of Colonel Arent de Peyster's snowshoes.

How to give

There are a number of ways to give:

• Becoming a patron - Individual donors making contributions over $2,000 become Patrons of the American Friends and receive the following benefits:

  For donations over $10,000, Patrons receive all the benefits above, as well as a curator-led tour and complimentary meal for six people at the award winning Maritime Dining Rooms, Liverpool UK.
