American Friends of National Museums Liverpool
In 2007 the Board of Directors decided to fundraise for the International Slavery Museum and new Museum of Liverpool, helping to provide key funding towards the continuation and development of these venues.

International Slavery Museum
The International Slavery Museum, opened on 23 August 2007, highlights the international
importance of slavery, both in a historic and contemporary context. Working in partnership
with other museums with a focus on freedom and enslavement, the museum provides
opportunities for greater awareness and understanding of the legacy of slavery today.
AFNML
is fundraising to help further developments at the International Slavery Museum,
including the opening of an Education and Research Centre.

Museum of Liverpool
The Museum of Liverpool opened on 19 July 2011 and explains and explores Liverpool’s
unique contribution to the world through various themed galleries. Capturing Liverpool’s diverse and vibrant history
and character on an international scale, the Museum of Liverpool has welcomed over 250,000 visitors in its first month of opening.
Phase Two of the museum opens in winter 2011/12 and AFNML is fundraising to help this world class museum develop further.
