About volunteering

A volunteer helping out at a creative workshop for young visitors

What do our volunteers do?

Our volunteers contribute a whole range of special skills and talents to the organisation and provide support where resources are not otherwise available. They are involved at all levels of the organisation, from areas requiring specialist knowledge and skills, to others where enthusiasm is the only essential requirement.

Many of our opportunities are based on the galleries working with the public, or within the Learning division facilitating exhibitions, workshops and activities with all age groups. Fot example in Big Art at the Walker Art Gallery, where a group of volunteers assist the Education team with children's activities, such as dressing up, storytelling, arts and crafts.

There are also many departments across the organisation where admin and clerical assistance is of enormous value. Duties may include data entry, cataloguing, handling enquiries, making up information packs and assisting our marketing team with mail outs.
