Illustration of a pair of boots by a pair of shoes on a doormat, with a verse

This Christmas card dating from around 1910 is from the social history collection of the Museum of Liverpool. It was sent to Mr and Mrs Jarvis in Liverpool. The verse on the front reads:

'A "Well Mated Pair" of Wishes.A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year, May they never be separated.
Life's journey you may safely foot through,
If a nice little partner you find,
You will tread upon air if you get the right pair,
Soul-healed and quite easy in mind,
Shoes't so.'
