Slavery Remembrance Day 2016

Walk of Remembrance

Slavery Remembrance Day on 23 August enables us to remember and reflect upon the millions of lives that were stolen through enslavement.

It also allows us to consider the many lasting legacies and achievements of people of African descent.

This year's free events include:

  • A day of family activities at the International Slavery Museum on Friday 19 August.
  • Dorothy Kuya Slavery Remembrance Lecture from Akala at the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building.
  • The Walk of Remembrance and libation on Tuesday 23 August.
