Bahadur Singh ChandBahadur Singh Chand was born in 1900 in Kawapur, a village in the Panjab. He arrived in England in 1939 and served with the British Army during the Second World War. In the late 1940s he lived with his uncle in Manchester before being
granted a trading licence from Mersey Docks and Harbour Board in 1951.
Bahadur and his family helped many new arrivals from India. He was the founding father of the Sikh community that presently exists in Liverpool, establishing the first Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) at 40 Newstead Road in 1957. Bahadur died in 1985.
