Robert Thomas, age 10, attended the Slavery Remembrance Day events in 2007 with his family. On his way home he composed the following rap poem in response to what he had experienced.
Down with Poverty, Racism and all the rest;
Stop it now 'cos you know it's best;
This is no jest.
We're all the same both black and white;
You know it's right
So don't give up without a fight!
Robert's mother told us:
"I wanted to pass on our thanks to the organizers for a remarkable day: enjoyable, moving and with a spirit of generous collectivity that took me by surprise."
