As the working day ends families meet to begin the journey to the outskirts of the city. Pushing prams, trolleys and carts these 'trekkers' are mainly people made homeless in the previous nights' bombings.

Damage to Stanley Road Bridge
Many roads were damaged by the air raids, making travelling even more difficult for the trekkers. This is Stanley Road Bridge in Bootle on 7/8 May 1941.
