Description: Reverse painting on glass, one of a pair (to LL 8822); with a standing portrait of an elegant Chinese lady in a gold embroidered mauve dress and rich hair ornaments, holding a Ju-i (ruyi 'as-you-wish'). Frame in an English style, moulded and gilt.
Bought from Frank Partridge, 5 March 1918, £20 (for a pair of Chinese paintings; LL 8821 & LL 8822, which have been sent to The Hill), gifted to the Lady Lever Art Gallery, 1922. LLAG Invoice file No. 87.
