About this object

This blue and white jasper flower pot has applied white jasper decoration around the pedestal base. The shape of this flower pot is based on Greco-Roman architectural columns. An interest in ancient architecture in the eighteenth century was fed by exciting archaeological discoveries, such as the ancient Roman city of Pompeii.
