About this object

This large Jasperware tablet depicts Diana visiting Endymion. The design is copied from the ancient stone Sarcophagus of Gerontia in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. This is the largest jasper tablet that Wedgwood is known to have made. We know from Wedgwood's oven books that the tablet shrank by three inches when it was fired.
