A mother of pearl and metal button inset with a blue jasper medallion. The blue jasper is decorated with white jasper sprigging depicting Hygeia and Aesculapius. Shown here on the bottom left of the image.
Large, fancy buttons were very fashionable in the late eighteenth century on gentlemen's clothing, such as waistcoats and coats.
