About this object

A cut steel and brass monocular opera glass, marked 'Dixon New Bond St., London'. The opera glass is made from brass with a blue jasper housing. The blue jasper is decorated with white jasper sprigging.
Opera glasses or monocular opera glasses, such as this, were taken to the theatre or the opera so that the viewer of the performance could see details more clearly.
