About this object

This red brown wax design on slate was modelled by Giuseppe Angelini (1742-1811). It was copied from an ancient relief in the Capitoline Museum in Rome. Wedgwood commissioned the design so that he could use it on his jasper pottery. It depicts Geniuses representing the pleasures of the Elysian Fields.
