Join Art Historian Dr Michael Barclay for a lecture on The Eagle in Splendour: Napoleon I and the Arts.

An examination of how Napoleon Bonaparte as First Consul and later Emperor of France influenced the fine and decorative arts. When Napoleon came to power the former French Royal Palaces had been stripped of their contents, he set about commissioning artists and craftsmen to refurbish and decorate the palaces of Compiegne, Fontainebleau ,Tuileries and the Grand Trianon at Versailles, as glorifications of his new dynasty and Imperial reign.
