Home Sweet Home? formed part of the Bridges not Walls exhibition, a community exhibition which highlighted the stories of displaced women and women living in areas of conflict.

Home Sweet Home? was created by visitors to World Museum on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2008.

For this activity a temporary shelter was built in the atrium of the museum to represent the shelters often used by displaced people fleeing their homes in times of crisis. Visitors were asked to think about the things that were really important to them by answering the question:

  • ‘If you had three minutes to leave your home, what would you take with you?’

Visitors wrote or drew their answers on the shelter. When the shelter was dismantled this artwork was created using some of the responses.

This exhibition was delivered through the Engaging refugees and asylum seekers project in collaboration with volunteers from the organisation Women to Women for Peace.
