National Museums Liverpool was given a Commended Award in the regeneration category in the Yorkshire Bank 150th Community Awards for the Engaging Refugees and Asylum Seekers project.
The ethos of the Engaging Refugees and Asylum Seekers project in Liverpool is to develop activities based on the needs of refugees and asylum seekers and the wider communities. Through activities such as school and learning partnerships, volunteering, family learning and staff training, the project has helped to bridge the gap between British and refugee communities.
The project has worked with over 8,600 people; increasing confidence, self esteem, volunteering and social opportunities as well as encouraging integration between communities.
The Yorkshire Bank 150th Community Awards celebrate the bank's 150th anniversary. Through the award ceremony Yorkshire Bank have donated £150,000 to charities and community groups. The Awards focus on four areas which they consider important for the health and wellbeing of communities.
National Museums Liverpool has won an award in the Regeneration category for the Engaging Refugees and Asylum Seekers project. The Regeneration award is given to projects that support activities which strengthen the communities that Yorkshire Bank serves. This category focused on community development through initiatives that build and strengthen the communities in which they operate.
