Education & Communities

Our Youth Arts Programme seeks to engage young people across Merseyside in creative arts activities inspired by our museums and galleries.
We provide a wide range of activities both in our venues and out in community settings as part of our outreach programmes. They are all free.
The Youth Arts Programme is funded by the Rank Foundation.

National Museums Liverpool's Youth Theatre Project works on themes that explore the collections, exhibitions and issues within our museums and galleries. It’s a vibrant, lively and creative place which encourages young people to develop their practical skills and knowledge of theatre and the arts and to nurture and expand their own creativity. It encourages confidence, self-awareness, teamwork, communication skills and a wide range of performance skills including acting, improvisation, devising, movement and music. It aims to create exciting, dynamic work which reflects the ideas and experiences of its members. Above all our Youth Theatre Project is fun!
If you are interested in joining please download a contact sheet and return it by post to The Communities Team, World Museum, William Brown Street, L3 8EN.
The Museum of Liverpool is a brand new city history museum currently being built on the waterfront. It's due to open in 2010. We want young people to be involved in setting up this museum, so that it becomes a place of interest and relevance to them, and somewhere they would want to visit. Our Youth Champions Group is open to young people aged between 11 and 25 who get together on a monthly basis to have their say. It also gives them opportunity to hear first hand about the plans for the new museum and meet the designers and curators. They also work with artists to produce creative outputs that hopefully can be displayed in the museum when it opens.
If you would like to join or find out more about the group please complete send Sean Murray, communities worker - young people, an email or telephone him on 0151 478 4338
National Museums Liverpool is part of a government initiative called Find Your Talent which is helping young people to get into cultural activities both in and out of school. As part of the programme we have helped to launch a new website for young people where you can find out about creative opportunities in Merseyside.
The website is aimed at those aged 11-19 and has lots of ideas about places you can go, meet new friends and hangout. There are cool things to see and do in your spare time including arts, music, dance, design, fashion, film, heritage, theatre and digital media, from drop-in sessions to clubs to join. If you’ve got talent and you want to take it further, then check out the ‘Making It Happen’ section of the site for auditions, work experience and competitions to help you on the road to success. If the limelight isn’t your thing, simply find out what’s on near you. You’ll find lots to do on your doorstep, as well as places where you can relax and be entertained.
