Introduction of charges for education sessions

Egypt schools session

You may be aware that government-funded organisations such as ourselves have experienced severe budget reductions in recent years. In light of this, we are making changes to bring our schools offer in line with other national museums and City Region attractions, and therefore will introduce a charge for our facilitated schools sessions in future months.

What sessions are we charging for and when?

From 15 May 2017, a charge of £70 per session (including VAT) will be applied to our three Egypt schools workshops, which will be bookable from 27 February. Charges for other facilitated sessions at World Museum will be introduced in summer for September bookings and this web page will be updated to give you further information.

Our brand new Egypt gallery opens in late April at World Museum. Children have enjoyed our Egypt collections for many years, and we’re sure that the gallery’s redevelopment will inspire more generations to come, especially with the new ‘mummy room’ featuring 12 mummies.

We are currently reviewing facilitated sessions at World Museum (except for the Ancient Egypt sessions). Facilitated sessions can currently be booked for summer term visits but cannot be booked for the Autumn term onwards. We will be introducing charges for facilitated sessions in the Autumn term. You will be able to book onto Autumn term sessions from 19 June.

Why are we charging for sessions?

Government-funded organisations such as ourselves have experienced severe budget reductions in recent years. In light of this, we are making changes to bring our schools offer in line with other national museums and City Region attractions, and therefore will introduce a charge for our facilitated schools sessions in future months. Our prices have been benchmarked against other museums to make sure that they offer value for money.

As a non-profit organisation, all funds will go back into National Museums Liverpool to support the work that we do. The charges we are implementing will enable us to enhance our current offer and continue delivering high quality sessions in the future.

Entrance to our museums and galleries for schools remains free, and we have a range of fantastic resources and trails available to support teachers who want to lead their own gallery visits too.

How will schools book sessions and pay?

Sessions can be booked online or by phoning 0151 478 4788. Payment must be received no later than 1 week after confirmation of the booking. If payment has not been received within 1 week of the booking confirmation, the scheduled booking will be cancelled and sessions made available for other schools to book. For bookings made within 4 weeks of the intended visit, payment must be made in full at the time of booking.

Payment can be made by BACs, credit card or cheque. Bookings will be subject to the Terms and Conditions provided at the time of the booking.
