A teacher and pupils on a gallery

We welcome school groups to all our museums and art galleries, whether they are exploring our public galleries with their teacher or taking part in an activity session led by one of our learning staff.
There is something for everyone; for children from key stage 1 to 4, for young people in post-16 education or, perhaps, studying English as a second language, and for those with special needs. Everything is free of charge.

We offer you, the teacher, the opportunity to bring your group and study in your own way on any of our galleries. We call these self-guided sessions. In many cases we can support your visit with teachers' notes, or trails and workbooks for your pupils.

Alternatively, you can book one of our museum/gallery-led sessions in which a member of our staff introduces your students to some of our marvellous objects. This might be a gallery tour, or take place in one of our hands-on centres or off-gallery learning bases.

Our museums and galleries can be busy, so it is essential that you book your visit in advance, giving us as much notice as possible. When you contact us we can give you details of lunch and cloakroom facilities, risk assessments and resource materials, as well as ideas for themed visits between our venues.

We now have schools networks targeting the different key stages to provide us with feedback on our services for schools and to assist us in developing new ones. Please contact us if you would like to get involved in one of them.
